In a significant milestone, we are thrilled to announce that the Nigeria Distributed Access through Renewable Energy Scale-up (DARES) program has officially approved DC MESH grids, alongside standalone systems and minigrids. This approval marks a pivotal moment for MESH grids, affirming their recognition as a mainstream electrification method.
We are looking forward to bringing our Solego Solar Home Systems and MESH grids to the Nigerian market under the DARES program, with the support of our local distributors, many of whom we had the opportunity to meet at the ARE Energy Access Investment Forum (EAIF) in Lagos in May. The DARES program is set to launch in August 2024, and we look forward to this exciting journey ahead!
About Distributed Access through Renewable Energy Scale-up (DARES)
The DARES project aims to provide electricity access to over 17.5 million Nigerians through distributed renewable energy solutions. It builds on the achievements of the World Bank-funded Nigeria Electrification Project (NEP), which established 125 mini grids and distributed over a million Solar Home Systems, benefiting 5.5 million people.
Funded with $750 million from the World Bank’s International Development Association, DARES will leverage over $1 billion in private capital and additional financing from partners like the Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet ($100 million) and Japan International Cooperation Agency ($200 million). Collaboration with USAID, GIZ, SEforAll, and AfDB enhances the program’s impact, aiming to catalyze sustainable development and economic growth across Nigeria.
