Solarworx is pleased to announce the successful operation of our MESH grid in Mubanga. This commercial MESH grid, located near Lusaka, Zambia, consists of 60 connections—55 consumer connections and 5 prosumer connections. Each of these prosumer connections are powered by approximately 1 kW PVp and 2.4 kWh batteries, resulting in a collective capacity of approximately 5 kW PVp and 10 kWh battery storage.
The MESH smart meters, integral to the grid, are equipped with a DC/DC converter facilitating voltage conversion between 12 and grid voltage. For IoT connectivity, all MESH devices are equipped with LoRA modules transmitting data on 433 MHz, while some devices function as decentralized Internet Gateways and are therefore also equipped with 3G modems. The network is therefore multi-redundant, providing resilience in both energy generation and connectivity. This feature is particularly significant in the rural African environment where reliability is essential.
The successful implementation of this project was affirmed by the final EEP Africa visit in December 2023, reflecting the project’s positive outcome.
